On Monday, December 6, Google launched its eBookstore service to get a piece of the estimated $1 billion business. They also released apps for the iPhone, iTouch, iPad and Android devices to facilitate downloads.
What’s interesting to me about their service is a feature that allows you to store your purchased titles on an “electronic bookshelf.” You can start reading your download on one device and switch to another, at will, and the service will remember the place where you last left off. This is true portability!
Actually, I think that this portability feature will fuel the expansion of the eBooks technology. Now, finding oneself with a few minutes to enjoy reading is no longer restricted by having a particular device with you. Perhaps I can encourage my daughters to do more reading than listening and texting? I think I’ll try that. Think it’ll work?
