OK, perhaps I should have seen it coming. Though I’ll have to admit the entry by Sharp into the tablet fray was a bit of a shocker. Did I say “the entry?”  Allow me to clarify by saying “the entries.”  You see, Sharp has just announced the planned roll-out of three devices. Under the name Galapagos, Sharp will launch a 10.8 inch and two 5.5 inch Android tablets. The devices – referred to as eReaders with the additional ability to access multi-media – will have built-in Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) capabilities enabling them to access the Galapagos e-bookstore.

The devices will be rolled out in Tokyo this December – no word yet  on the timing of the U.S. debut. These units are sleek in appearance and boast high resolution screens that should deliver eye-popping images.

The questions that remain to be answered about pricing and U.S. availability will soon be answered. The answer that I am looking for is: Who will be next to throw their tablet into the ring? Any guessers out there?
