In late September, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Organized Retail Theft Investigation and Prosecution Act of 2010. The purpose of this legislation is to create a dedicated staff and resources within the Department of Justice to specifically focus on Organized Retail Crime (ORC).
The unit would be named the Organized Retail Theft Investigation and Prosecution Unit will act as a proactive resource for local law enforcement and district attorneys offices. These entities would have one central go-to point for help with ORC investigations and and prosecutions.
The next step of this legislation is referral to the Senate, which could pass it after recess. Read more about the Act here.
