No one need be a genius to realize that the introduction of a new product by Apple has the potential to drive markets. iPod anyone? Need I say more? Obviously, yes. In the wake of the launch of the breakthrough iPad, observers of the consumer electronics segment are quick to notice as major players announce their plans for entry into the tablet computer product category.
Major players you ask? How about Cisco, just to name one. The enterprise-focused Cisco has announced the Cius, which has been informally referred to as “the BlackBerry of tablets”. This could be a breakthrough. The Cius will leverage the video conferencing strength of Cisco along with the developers’ darling of mobile platforms, Android. While proposing a feature-rich offering, both technically and functionally, the Cisco Cius is clearly geared towards the business user. Will the business community latch on to the tablet craze? Only time will tell, but for now, Cisco is betting on it.
